 EAST SURREY N GAUGE

Our layouts

The club currently follows two modular standards.  We have used others in the past.  We have, and have had, club layouts.  Club members also own their own layouts.  Follow the links to read more about these layouts - and contact us if you would like to book any of them for your own model railway exhibition.

Our original modular system, originating from the American N-Trak system, started with a three track system, then had a fourth track added.  A large modular circuit makes quite a spectacle, with four trains on the move.  At exhibitions, we may try and keep to a theme, but other times anything goes - watch Thomas overtake the Japanese bullet train!

The N-club modular system is double-tracked, and designed to be a more flexible system than N-mod.  We are just starting to work to this system, and junction and transition boards allow us to link N-mod and N-club systems together.

Our Swiss layout, Dreibruken was donated to the club, and already 25 years old when we took her over.  ESNG completely renovated the layout, and Dreibrucken is a firm exhibition favourite, and has appeared in the Continental Modeller.  Our model of a local station, Reigate, has been less successful, but we’ve learnt a lot in its making.

The Alpenbahn modular system was the brainchild of ESNG and modelled a length of open main line in alpine Germany.  A number of members contributed modules to the system and Alpenbahn made a number of successful exhibition appearances.  We have retired the Alpenbahn system, but the modules still appear linked to the club’s other modular systems.

Many of our members have home layouts as well as modules to contribute to the club systems.  Some of these layouts are described on these pages.
